The Drone Shows Pilot is responsible for ensuring the overall safety, execution, and compliance with FAA requirements for our drone shows. The Pilot will make go/no-go decisions based on factors such as weather, safety, and the status of hardware and software. Additionally, the Pilot will assist with project preparation and equipment maintenance at the test field and in the shop.
Position Summary:
1. Safety and Compliance:
Ensure the overall safety of drone light show operations.
Strictly adhere to FAA regulations and company protocols.
Evaluate and make go/no-go decisions based on weather conditions, safety parameters, and hardware/software status.
2. Pre-Show Preparations:
Conduct thorough pre-flight checks and inspections of all drone equipment.
Plan flight paths and drone choreography according to the show script.
Coordinate with team members to ensure all equipment is prepared and functional.
3. Execution of Drone Light Shows:
Oversee and manage the execution of drone light shows, ensuring precise adherence to planned choreography.
Monitor drone performance and manage real-time adjustments to ensure show accuracy and safety.
Ensure seamless operation and prevent drone collisions during the show.
4. Post-Show Operations:
Conduct post-flight inspections and maintenance to ensure drones are in optimal condition.
Diagnose and troubleshoot any issues that arise during the show and implement corrective actions.
Document show performance, noting any issues and potential improvements for future shows.
5. Equipment Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance and regular inspections of drones, controllers, and related equipment.
Ensure all equipment is kept in top working condition and ready for use.
Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues with drone hardware and software.
6. Test Field and Shop Duties:
Assist with test flights and rehearsals to ensure drones are calibrated and prepared for live shows.
Participate in project preparation activities, including equipment setup and logistical planning.
Conduct field tests to fine-tune drone settings and optimize performance.
7. Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with team members, including choreographers, technical staff, and project managers, to ensure successful show execution.
Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure alignment on show objectives and performance standards.
Serve as a liaison between the drone operation team and clients or event organizers as needed.
8. Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of flight operations, maintenance activities, and compliance checks.
Provide detailed reports on show performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.
Ensure all required documentation is up-to-date and available for FAA inspections or company audits.
9. Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated on the latest advancements in drone technology and FAA regulations.
Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance show quality, safety, and efficiency.
Qualifications
Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License.
Comprehensive understanding of FAA regulations and requirements for drone operations.
Proven experience in drone operations, preferably with drone light shows or similar applications.
Experience in managing and executing large-scale drone performances is a plus.
Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting drone hardware and software.
Familiarity with various drone platforms and flight control systems.
Strong understanding of flight dynamics, drone choreography, and aerial formations.
Thorough knowledge of safety protocols and procedures for drone operations.
Ability to assess and mitigate risks related to weather, technical issues, and environmental factors.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly.
Ability to make critical decisions under pressure, ensuring the safety and success of the drone show.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate with team members, clients, and other stakeholders.
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical clients and team members.
